Rights Respecting School
Walthamstow Primary Academy has met the standard for UNICEF UK’s Rights Respecting Schools Award: Rights Aware
We work hard to foster an environment where children’s rights are lived, learned, and understood. We begin this through our whole school values that link to children’s rights, collective worships and teaching and learning.
This is what some pupils of Walthamstow Primary Academy have said about their rights during the Silver Accreditation visit (see the report).
“Our School is good at listening to us.’’
“Everyone has the right for their voice to be heard.’’
“We learn about our rights in Whole Class Reading; there are usually children in the story who get unfair treatment, so we talk about this, and we talk about the rights which that child does not get.’’
“It feels good to express what our world should look like.’’
This is what a parent has said…
“My Year 5 child tells me everything he knows about his rights. I think if they know that they are heard, they will feel safe and confident,” adding “The Parent Workshops have been brilliant, working with your child in a school setting really helps.”
This is what staff of Walthamstow Primary Academy have said…
“I have been in this school for a long time, and I have seen a big change since this has been introduced.”
“The vocabulary that we use, has helped us log concerns and provide support for all pupils.’’
